News Update

Friday Night was SNYSB Night on 27th May, when members of the South Norfolk Youth Symphonic Band entertained a very appreciative audience with a programme of music for all tastes - themes and songs from films and shows, plus music written especially for Wind Bands (orchestras without a string section).  During the second half there was a chance for some audience participation - Irish dancing and even conducting.  Penny from Fenners gave a wonderful conducting performance in the encore at the end!

During the refreshments interval, band and audience mingled happily as folk were able to see some of the more exotic instruments at close quarters.  The concert raised over £230 for the church and a retiring collection enabled us to send £45 to SNYSB for its funds. Grateful thanks to all who participated and to all who came along.

Rogation Sunday

The Sunday before Ascension Day is traditionally the time when churches ask for a special blessing on the land and its crops of many kinds.  This year a Pilgrimage Communion service was held, starting at North Lopham Church.  The Rector, Revd Rob Mellowship, led the introduction at St Nicholas' Church, and the service continued via South Lopham and Fersfield to Roydon.  At each venue, a part of the service was held in the church followed by prayers outside.  The journey through the country lanes emphasised the rural nature of the benefice.  When the final section was complete, a Bring and Share lunch for all participants was enjoyed  in Roydon Parish Room.

Monday's rain, while not good holiday weather, was very welcome to the local farming community, whether or not it could be called a direct answer to prayer!

A Hymn Marathon:   Will be held on Saturday 30th July - More news later

We have an excellent band of sidespeople who delight in welcoming people to our services, and a growing band of youngsters who share this important job at the 11 o'clock service.

All our services are followed by Fellowship over refreshments at the back of the church, and we look forward to seeing new faces amongst us.

Our next big project is to re-order the church tower so that we can offer toilet facilities to everyone, and install a small kitchen area.  To enable this, a new ringing floor for the bell ringers will be needed, accessed from the tower spiral staircase.

The folk at North Lopham love getting together for social events -

to which everyone from across the benefice and beyond is assured of a warm welcome.
