"Catch it!"

Sensational last innings win by The Wrinklies against The Young 'Uns in "The Fersfield World Rounders Series" to level the series 1-1

Can there be, will there be, should there be a deciding match to determine The Fersfield World Champions; Do the Young 'Uns have the stamina? Can The Wrinklies still walk?

Poetry in motion

Protest from Young 'Uns after The Wrinklies draft in two late international stars!

Barry Green; probably the oldest and most graceful rounders player in the world!

Wrinklies took drastic action as star player stays away to wash hair and pack bags for holiday!

 Newsletter

Welcome to the first ‘Fersfield Church Meadow’ newsletter.

In April 2008 the Fersfield Church Meadow Management Committee was formed, with the aim of :- Protecting, conserving & enhancing Fersfield Church Meadow as a place of freedom, recreation and enjoyment for the long term benefit of all sections of the local community, and to preserve & promote its aesthetic character and context.

One of the first things we did was to canvass the views of Fersfield residents. The 2 younger members of the committee, together with a friend, took it on board to devise, print, deliver & then collect a questionnaire to all Fersfield villagers. (Thank you Sam, Matt & Ryan).

Thank you to all those who replied, the majority wanted to see all or some of the following:

·      New fence

·      Grass kept cut & tidy

·      Somewhere to play football/rounders

·      Play equipment for children

·      Somewhere nice to sit/meet friends

As you can see, we have already have a wonderful new fence, which we are sure you will agree has made a huge improvement to the look of the village. We are most grateful to Bressingham & Fersfield Parish Council and to Fersfield PCC for their generous donations towards the cost of the fencing. However, we still need to raise a further £ 400 for this project and would be very grateful for any donations.

The grass is being cut regularly and is now looking really good. Once again, thanks go to Fersfield PCC who are currently funding the grass cutting although we hope eventually to be self financing for this. If anyone has an unwanted ride-on lawn mower lurking in their garden shed – we would love to hear from them, even if it doesn’t   work at the moment, as long as it doesn’t need too much doing to it.

Rounders – For those of you that weren’t there (why not?), we had a brilliant turn out for the ‘Young ‘uns v The Wrinklies’ rounders match on Friday 18th July. There were at least 28 players, with a few more turning up once the game had started, and a number of spectators. It was wonderful to see such a wide range of ages between 7 & 15yrs for the youngsters (we won’t divulge figures for the wrinklies!). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, the wrinklies thought they had better let the ‘young ‘uns’ win – we’re quite generous like that, Jan Mellowship was ‘official photographer’ for the evening (see pictures at www.upperwavenybenefice.com) & Rev Rob kept order throughout. (Even arranging with ‘him up above’ as to when it could rain!).

 Plate & Bottle Social evening

Following on from the huge success of the rounders match, we are organising a social evening at:

 Sue & Ian Cattermoles

Rose Cottage, Fersfield.

Sat. 2nd August

6.00pm onwards

Everyone welcome

Contact: Sue 01379 688088 or Jackie 687397

This will be free, all we ask is you bring a plate of ‘finger’ food and/or a bottle of drink.

Come & meet your neighbours & local villagers. It will also be an opportunity to discuss your views/ideas for future plans for the playing field. There will be a £1 in a bucket competition to raise funds towards the fencing. Any donations gratefully received.

Future plans

We will shortly be seeking a grant to fund some decent play equipment, notice board & benches/picnic tables, we would welcome any ideas or suggestions you may have.

We would also like to hear of any ideas of events you would like organised or fundraising suggestions.

Fersfield Church Meadow

A Management Committee for Fersfield Church Meadow has been set up:

 Our aims are:

FERSFIELD   CHURCH   MEADOW

A committee has been formed to manage the playing field. Members voted on were, Chairman- John Walker, Vice Chair-Jackie Porter, Treasurer-Sally Pankhurst, Secretary-Sue Cattermole, and Minutes Secretary-Sally Walker, other members Rob Mellowship, Debbie Gosman, Sam Cattermole, Matt Porter, Laura and Sophie Gosman. It was decided that the fencing beside the road would be replaced with a post and rail fence which would be completed by July 22nd before the school summer holidays begin, to make the area safer for the children. A picnic table or tables will be provided for seating. Various grants are being looked into for funding of equipment for the meadow.

Hopefully by the time you read this, a questionnaire about the meadow will have been delivered around the village, collected or returned with your views.

Last but not least if anyone in the village has an old ride on mower, working or non working which would not cost too much too repair, which they could kindly donate too help keep the cost of the grass cutting down the committee would be very grateful.

Sue Cattermole,

Secretary.
