POLICY STATEMENT ON CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS IN THE CHURCH
Members of the The Upper Waveney Benefice (The parishes of Bressingham, Fersfield,
Ø This Benefice is committed to following the Norwich Diocesan Guidelines for Child Protection contained in the document “The Protection of Children and Young People.”
Ø This Benefice is committed to supporting, resourcing and training those who work with children and young people. It will provide supervision for workers because it recognises this as important in maintaining good practice.
Ø This Benefice will actively encourage everyone responsible for work with children and young people to undertake Child Protection Training, which is regularly offered by the Norwich Diocese.
Ø It is the responsibility of all church members to prevent the physical, sexual and emotional abuse of children and young people and to report any abuse alleged or suspected.
Ø The Rector, Child Protection Officer and Churchwardens will ensure that each person who works with Children and Young People is appropriately checked and will receive a copy of the Benefice policy, is familiarised with the guidelines in the above named policy and give an undertaking to observe them.
Ø Each Parish in the Benefice will undertake to display a copy of this policy statement in a prominent place on church premises so that all may become aware of its existence.
This policy statement will be reviewed annually at The Annual Group Meetings of the Parishes and progress in carrying it out will be monitored.
Tony Osler has been appointed by the Incumbent to have a monitoring role concerning the policy and is responsible along with the Incumbent for exercising oversight of those who work with children and young people. Tony Osler must ensure that appropriate child protection training is undertaken. Any suspicion or disclosure of abuse should in the first instance be reported to this person and to the Incumbent of the parish. Tony Osler may be contacted on 01379 688121

Draft Environmental Policy
Care for the environment is a key Christian duty, expressed by the Church of England as the need to conserve the Earth’s complex and fragile ecology while recognizing the need for responsible and sustainable development and the pursuit of social justice. The Upper Waveney Benefice are firmly committed to the protection of the environment in which we live and work and place great value on a responsible approach to sustainable environmental management, the value and principles of which are also considered to be sound business practice.
In this policy statement The Upper Waveney Benefice commit themselves to assessing the environmental impact of all its activities while considering ways in which to minimize and mitigate any environmental damage they may cause by:-
· Complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and approved codes of practice;
· Protecting the environment by striving to prevent and minimise our contribution to pollution of land, air and water;
· Seeking to keep wastage to a minimum and maximise the efficient use of materials and resources;
· Managing and disposing of all waste in a responsible manner;
· Providing training for our staff so that we all work in accordance with this policy and within an environmentally aware culture;
· Regularly communicating our environmental performance to any interested parties;
· Ensuring that environmental factors are considered during planning and implementation;
· Monitoring and seeking to continuously improve our environmental footprint;
· Encouraging our worshippers and visitors to play their part in being responsible custodians of the environment;
· Wherever possible that all our churches will endeavour to use fairly traded products and services.
The policy statement will be regularly reviewed and updated as necessary.
The Upper Waveney Benefice endorses this policy statement and is fully committed to its implementation.
